Thanksgiving Safety Tips

Comments | November 24, 2011 - 12:00 AM PDT | Category: Thanksgiving, Safety, Tips

Thanksgiving is a special day to spend with our family. Who doesn’t enjoy the traditional Thanksgiving feast? One may be tempted to share some of that feast with our furry family members, but such an act may actually prove harmful to Fido or Fluffy. Pancreatitis, which can cause a painful abdomen, vomiting and, in some cases can be fatal is not uncommon in pets that have partaken in Thanksgiving “treats”.

Also, beware of a pet’s potential access to turkey bones, which are fragile and can splinter resulting in possible obstruction or peroration of an intestine.

Although tempting, your pet is safest being fed his or her normal diet. Leave the leftovers for Uncle Mike!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving,

Russell S. Earl, DVM
